Nelson set to host NetHui in October
Nelson has been named as one of three local communities that will host NetHui events in 2016.
NetHui is a community-based event about the Internet and the people that use it. It is run by the community, for the community, and prioritises participation and interaction from attendees.
InternetNZ’s Chief Executive, Jordan Carter, says that it’s important that NetHui involves all of the Internet community, including those that live outside of the major centres.
“We want to broaden NetHui’s horizons and connect with more people who use the Internet across New Zealand. This is why we are taking NetHui on the road this year.”
“We are looking forward to working with Nelson City and Tasman District Councils, as well as Nelson Regional Development Agency to bring NetHui to the Nelson community,” says Carter.
Mayor of Tasman Richard Kempthorne says being the first regional centre to host NetHui reinforces our commitment to the recently launched Nelson Tasman digital enablement plan.
“NetHui’s user-driven focus to digital development gives us a chance to learn from the experts as we build the digital capability essential to complement our population and sector growth. NetHui can only add to our regional track record of developing unique solutions to move forward together. It’s not to be missed,” says Kempthorne.
Mayor of Nelson Rachel Reese says this is an exciting opportunity for our city to host such a collaborative and community focused event.
“Nethui’s events have been hugely successful, and we look forward to seeing our region get involved and discuss all things relating to the internet,” says Reese.
NetHui events are open and inclusive, and are suitable for anyone who wants to talk about the Internet. Attendees are diverse, and could come from a range of sectors including business owners, education providers, regional start-ups and people from the general public who are interested in tech and the way the Internet is changing New Zealander’s lives.
NetHui Nelson will be held at the Rutherford Hotel on 13 October, and is open to anyone who wishes to attend.
If you are interested in being part of the conversation at NetHui, visit the NetHui website at 2016.nethui.nz for more information. And if you have topics you would like to talk about, you can help us build the programme by filling in the expression of interest form on the site before 8 August.
