There is incredible scope for supporting and empowering young people in the digital world, however it also contains new ways to harm. This session will discuss Cyberbullying, safety, skills, and various approaches to reducing online harm.
One of these is the Aroha Project which has been two seasons of a short documentary web-series, revealing stories of youth and stories of truth. Aroha 3 is to be our third season, funded by Te Puni Kokiri, speaking particularly about rangatahi cyber-bullying and suicide prevention. We follow young members of the community through personal tales, who share their experiences and divulge New Zealand’s most disturbing truth.
We, as a small nation have a lot to be proud of, and yet annually we have one of the highest rates of teenage suicide in the world, for our population. Why? Our mission – to get the message out to the nation – believe in our youth, steer them away from thoughts of suicide. How? Innovation.
